A SureStart Children’s Centre

Support for all families with children under 5 in Melksham and surrounding villages

The Children’s Centre was established as part of Wiltshire’s only Sure Start project in 2004 and incorporated in April 2006. The centre is particularly good at promoting health and parent education.

We all want our children to be happy and healthy, and achieve great things in life, but it’s hard sometimes, especially if you have no support, have health concerns, or you’re struggling to pay the bills or you’re new to the area.

At King’s Park Children’s Centre we can help you support your children to be happy, healthy and achieve great things in life.

What is a Children’s Centre?

The main purpose of a Children’s Centre is to improve outcomes for young children and to ensure that every child gets the best start in life. The centre will be a base from which to co-ordinate a variety of activities, supporting parents and giving them more choice in how to balance work and family life.

What actually happens at a Children’s Centre?

In Melksham we aim to be as creative as possible when co-ordinating services to complement existing local provision. We want to work closely with parents and agencies to provide:

• Links to child and family health services
• Childminder link up scheme
• Outreach activities and support
• Family learning events
• Links with Jobcentre Plus, job opportunities and training
• Signposting to other services in the area
• Support for mums, dads, grandparents and carers

Where is the Children’s Centre?

The Children’s Centre is at King’s Park Primary School. We are in the ‘bungalow’. We also organise activities in other venues – call for information.

Can I bring the children?

Of course, that’s what we are all about. There are toys and books for your children to play with, so you can relax while talking to a member of staff.

I haven’t got transport so can’t get to the centre

We may be able to come to you through outreach activities or home visiting. We may also be able to make arrangements to help you get to and from the Children’s Centre.
