About Us

KING'S PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL

The school is housed in mainly 1960’s buildings with some later additions. There has been some recent re-modelling to convert infant accommodation into rooms and toilets for Key Stage 2 pupils. The school has a large attractive hall and an excellent recently built staffroom. In 2007 we opened our new Foundation Stage unit which is linked to our nursery building which opened in 2004.

King’s Park Primary School was established in September 2005 following the re-organisation of three schools in the East of Melksham. Formerly known as Lowbourne Infant’s School, King’s Park is now a Primary School, with our first Year 6 class having started in September 2008. The planned admission level for the school is 45 per year. However due to the transition from three form entry infant school to 1.5 entry primary we have two bulge years going through with year groups in excess of 60. The school also is has a Specialist Leaning Centre providing for pupils with complex needs. We also offer an outreach service to other local schools.

Recently our School Travel Plan was approved by the Local Authority, if you would like to see a copy please contact the office.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum is skills based with a first hand active approach to learning. We encourage staff to think outside the box and to be innovative. We are currently working on incorporating more drama into the curriculum to encourage language development and self esteem.
AWARDS

The school has recently been awarded a “Healthy Schools” award; last term we achieved the Active Kids AWARD and the Bristol Standard for Quality Improvement. We are currently working towards the Eco Schools Award.

THE CHILDREN'S CENTRE

The Children’s Centre was established as part of Wiltshire’s only Sure Start project in 2004 and incorporated in April 2006. The centre is particularly good at promoting health and parent education. Parents are keen to be involved in the centre’s education programme and courses are often oversubscribed. For more information please see our page dedicated to the Children's Centre.

NURSERY

The Nursery is the only Local Authority maintained nursery in the area.  Staffed by a qualified teacher and experienced teaching assistants, we pride ourselves in providing an excellent standard of Early Years Education that is an outstanding preparation for school life. We cater for children in the term following their 3rd birthday and a Nursery Education Grant is available for parents, which is up to 15 hours per week, term time only. For more information please see our page dedicated to the Nursery.
